Our bathrooms

Walk-in showers, wet rooms and accessible bathrooms

Beautiful first. Safe always. Every Nord bathroom is designed around how you live now and how you want to live in ten years' time. It should feel like a lovely bathroom, not a hospital room.

Walk-in showers

Replace a bath or high-sided tray with a low or level-entry shower, a glass screen and a seat that folds away when you don't need it.

Good for: stepping over the bath getting harder

Wet rooms

A completely level, fully waterproofed floor with no step or tray at all. Room for a shower chair, a wheelchair or someone helping.

Good for: wheelchair users and those who need a carer

Easy-access baths

For people who love a soak. Lower, wider baths with good handholds, or walk-in baths with a watertight door.

Good for: keeping a bath while making it safer

Smaller changes

Comfort-height toilets, thermostatic showers, grab rails that look like towel rails, better lighting and non-slip floors.

Good for: a safer bathroom without a full refit

£8,500–£10,000

is what most full Nord bathrooms cost, including design, materials and fitting. Smaller changes cost less. You'll get a fixed written quote after your free visit.

The Nord way

Safety you'll hardly notice

Scandinavian design is about calm, light and things that simply work. We hide the safety features in plain sight.

Level floors

No steps or lips to trip on, and room to turn.

Non-slip tiles

Stone and matt finishes that grip, even when wet.

Fold-down oak seats

Warm wood that folds flat against the wall.

Rails that look like towel rails

Strong enough to hold you, smart enough to blend in.

Thermostatic showers

Steady, safe temperature with big, easy controls.

Comfort-height toilets

Easier to sit and stand, with no clinical look.

Good lighting

Soft, even light and a gentle night-light setting.

Wider doorways

Where needed, for walkers, wheelchairs and helpers.

Could you pay no VAT?

Many mobility bathrooms qualify for VAT relief

If you have a long-term illness or disability, adapting your bathroom to suit your needs can be zero-rated for VAT. On a typical bathroom that can be a saving of well over a thousand pounds.

  • The work has to be an adaptation for your condition, not a like-for-like replacement
  • You sign a simple eligibility declaration, and we'll explain it at your visit
  • We'll tell you honestly whether your project is likely to qualify

VAT relief depends on HMRC's rules and your circumstances. We'll check your project with you before anything is agreed.

How it works

Five simple steps, one person to deal with

No call centres and no strangers turning up. We look after your project from the first cup of tea to the final check.

  2. Design

You get a clear design with tiles, fittings and safety features chosen together.

  3. Fixed quote

  4. Installation

Most bathrooms take about two weeks. Dust sheets down, tidy every day.

  5. Check-in

We show you how everything works, then call a week later to make sure all is well.

About us

Years of beautiful bathrooms, now helping people stay at home

I've designed and installed bathrooms across Essex for many years, and for a long time ran the Nord Bathrooms shop on Mersea Island. More and more, the jobs that meant the most were the ones that let someone keep living independently in the home they love.

So that's what Nord does now. Bathrooms that are safe and easy to use, but still feel like somewhere you want to be. I'll be your contact from the first visit to the final check, and I'll always give you a straight answer.

"A good bathroom should give you your freedom back, not remind you of what's changed."

Questions

The things people usually ask

How long will the work take?

Most full bathrooms take around two weeks. Smaller changes, like a new toilet or grab rails, can take a day or two. You'll get a timeline before we start.

Will I be without a toilet or water?

We plan the work to keep disruption as low as possible and will talk through exactly what to expect at your visit, including any time without water or a toilet and how we'll manage it.

Can my son or daughter come to the visit?

Yes, please do invite them. Big decisions are easier with family around, and we're happy to send them the design and quote too.

Do you only fit "mobility" bathrooms?

Our focus is bathrooms that make life safer and easier, but every one is designed to look beautiful. Many customers simply want a bathroom that will still work for them in years to come.

How much does it cost?

Most full Nord bathrooms are £8,500 to £10,000 including design, materials and fitting. Smaller changes cost less. After the free visit you'll get a fixed written quote.

What's the difference between a walk-in shower and a wet room?

A walk-in shower has a very low or flush shower tray with a glass screen. A wet room has a fully waterproofed, level floor, so there's nothing to step over at all. We'll recommend what suits your bathroom and your needs.

Can I get a grant for a disabled or mobility bathroom?

You may be able to get a Disabled Facilities Grant from your local council towards adaptations such as a level-access shower. It depends on your circumstances and usually starts with an assessment by an occupational therapist. We're happy to explain the process at your visit.

Which areas do you cover?

Essex, Suffolk and the surrounding areas, including Colchester, Mersea Island, Maldon, Chelmsford, Clacton and Ipswich. If you're not sure, just ask.
